| BabyE enjoying a walk in his Ergo. |
Despite my minimalist approach, there are simply some things that you do need with a new baby in the house. Here's my list of must haves for the first six months of natural parenting. (Even though I love our cloth diapers, I resisted putting them on the list because telling you babies must have diapers is just a little too obvious.)
#6 Burp Cloths

This is a natural product that BabyE's doctor recommended in lieu of a chemical alternative like acetaminophen. When we first tried the tabs, I immediately dubbed them the miracle pills. After a full day of teething hysterics, Baby was feeling all better within ten minutes!
Baby started using his jumper at just shy of four months old. This has been the perfect activity for our very active little boy. This is one of those baby products that little ones use for a short time and quickly outgrow, so it's a great thing to borrow or find recycled on Craigslist.
#2 Nosefrida The Snotsucker Nasal Aspirator
#1 Baby Carriers

I'd agree with all of these except my little one wasn't such a fan of the jumper. I only spent $5 on it though at a thrift store and I'm keeping it for a future baby who hopefully won't also be content ONLY in Mama's arms all.the.time. Eli is now 2 years old and 32 lbs and we use our Ergo multiple time daily. I'm small and it is so helpful... I rarely have any back pain even though he is a big guy now. Best money I ever spent, although I could have spent less if I hadn't been so desperate to have it right away and could have shopped for it on craigslist. Still, worth every penny and then some!
ReplyDeleteI love your thriftiness! I just got BabyE a booster seat for $5 on craigslist!
DeleteI love hearing you were able to use the Ergo for so long. Do you wear him on your back, or on the side now, or still in front?
I definitely agree with you on the baby carrier. I would love to one day try an Ergo, but for now, I love the slings!
ReplyDeleteI'll have to look into the teething tabs next time I have a teething baby. Poor Garrett was miserable when he was cutting teeth! :(
I used a sling at the very beginning and I loved it! I quickly needed more padding to carry my big boy though.
DeleteTeething is the worst, isn't it?
I agree with parts of this but we actually just put our little ones right in bed wtih us so the co-sleeper isn't on the top of my list. I usually recommend a sling (I'm a ring sling gal even with my 25 lb toddler though I, too, started out with a Moby and use my SSC occasionally) and a copy of the Womanly Art of Breastfeeding. If you haven't read the newest version, you totally should. It is way better than any previous version!
ReplyDeleteAnd I didn't use anything for teething for my first but Hyland's teething gel was a lifesave with my second!
And a good car seat is a must around these parts. We live in a rural area so everyone drives :)
