This is Screen Free Week 2012. I hope you'll consider joining with us and others around the world on April 30 through May 6 in going TV free for one week. Does screen free include your computer or smart phone? You'll have to make your own rules, but whatever you decide, I'm confident the benefits will be great.
Don't you feel great after this week's TV detox? To enjoy thee benefits throughout the year without so much rigor, lay some viewing ground rules now instead of jumping back into old habits.
How to Almost be TV Free
- Watch on Netflix and Hulu. This way you will avoid commercials and you'll have to make a conscious decision to play another episode.
- Don't pay for cable. As with keeping junk food in the house, if it isn't there you can't eat (watch) it.
- Limit screen time to a reasonable number of hours per day or week. It's easy to set rules for the kids, but how about for the parents too?
- Be mindful of what content you allow into your home. Would you be comfortable with your real life friends discussing certain topics in front of yourself or your children? If not, don't allow the television to do it either.
