Letter to Littles {14 months}

14 month old BabyE
Dear 14 month BabyE,

Oh what a delightful companion you make for me each day. You have quite the sense of humor, wrinkling your nose and throwing your head back whenever something is so funny. When you are really excited, you tense your shoulders, clench your fists, and shake your head intensely.

You have discovered your shadow and love to play shadow puppets with Dada and me. It is the first thing you want to do when you wake up from your nap, and the sun is shining on the bedroom wall. You form your hand into something like a bunny and hop it through the air. Then you grab my hand showing me you want me to do the same.

It's always an event when you wake up in the morning. You're full speed ahead while Dada and I are still groggy and wishing for just a few minutes more sleep. One morning you stood right up and suddenly realized the bed was the perfect surface for jumping. Oh it's so fun to see your wheels turning, and we couldn't help but laugh.

Dada showed you the sign for please a couple of times at dinnertime one night. It seems that's all it takes now for you to learn. You asked for something by signing please to me the very next day. Now you ask for most things by signing more and pointing, but when you really really want something you use please.  You also quickly picked up the sign for bath.

I'm loving this age where you're beginning to understand how to help out with chores around the house. I must admit you are not always as truly helpful as I might wish, but I do love that you are participating in the tasks we are doing throughout the day. You love to help close the dryer door. You can also put pieces of silverware in the basket and close the dishwasher door. Then you clap enthusiastically for yourself. When you empty the bathroom cabinet, you will put some of the items back in when I ask you.

You have never been much of a cuddler, even as a tiny baby you would insist on being held all the while fighting and flailing. This new development is heaven. You give us hugs and kisses and lay your head down on our shoulders of your own free will. You hug your friends on our play dates and sometimes random children on the playground. Sometimes I wish mothering was all baby hugs and kisses, but then maybe I wouldn't be able to appreciate them quite so much. What a privilege it is to be your mama!

I love you,
Your mama
